Did I already mention I really like the default background image for Ubuntu Hardy Heron? It is called „Warty Final“ (confusing name scheme) and was created by Feta Kuti. It’s a new fresh style (correct me if it is older and I’s always missing it) apart from all those water-chocolate-thingies (which we have seen enough, haven’t we?). I already got asked about the background from people standing behind me several times. „Warty Final“ already enhances some Windows backgrounds. Ubuntu Guerilla marketing in an artistic way. Nice work!
[update]
A comment by user AshCroft (thank you!) stated that Feta Kuti is an „Afrofunk/Jazz Saxophonist whose music was some of the inspiration for the heron and was chosen as the name for the art submission“.
„Fela Kuti“ is actually the name of the Afrofunk/Jazz Saxophonist whose music was some of the inspiration for the heron and was chosen as the name for the art submission. Somewhere along the way it was tweaked and the file name became Warty Final for unknown reasons. Probably a lazy mistake.
@AshCogs:
Thank you for your reply. Especially the point about Fela Kuti – so crediting him is not that correct but in a way it is
warty-final was simply the filename of the default background picture in warty (the first release of ubuntu), and for subsequent releases the filename just stuck…
I was going to mention what Jonas said… the wallpaper is not titled „Warty Final“… the filename is that because it has been that ever since Ubuntu came into existence… I’m actually rather surprised someone on the Ubuntu Planet wouldn’t be aware of such common knowledge… I’m a n00b, and even I know that.
@Jonas: Thanks for the explanation.
@Rich: Thank you for repeating the explanation and pointing out your wiseness.
